The Korda Universe

After the tiger Shere Khan kills his father, young Mowgli is taken in by wolves and brought up according to the law of the jungle. Once grown, the young man returns to his village where he tries to make sense of human customs he finds extremely amusing. Although he can always rely on his friends, the animals, it is not only Shere Khan that he has to face but there is danger also from the locals. Zoltán Korda was the first to adapt Kipling’s popular story for film, with the Hungarian director focusing on the contrast between human greed and natural virtue. The big sets and use of live animals created a magical atmosphere around the figure of Sabu who moves with such ease and fluency.
